Halloween

A costume committed to harder than necessary, and a very good night.

Halloween

I'll be honest: I am a complete sucker for Halloween. Something about a night where everyone collectively agrees to dress up and act a little ridiculous just works on me every single year without fail.

The costume

I threw together a costume and then committed to it way harder than was strictly necessary, which is really the only correct way to do Halloween. Half the fun is the getting-ready chaos anyway, the whole group of us crammed into somebody's room putting our outfits together, taking far too many photos, and hyping each other up like we were about to walk a runway instead of just go hang out.

The night

The rest of it was exactly the kind of dumb, easy fun you want the night to be. Good people, good snacks, everyone in character and then breaking character and laughing about it. It's the lowest-stakes holiday there is, and somehow that's the exact reason it's so good: no pressure, no expectations, just one night a year to be a little weird with the people you actually like.

Already thinking about next year's costume, if I'm being honest.
