Returning to the wall after long hiatus
This Monday I step foot in a climbing gym for the first time in a year. It was surprisingly not that rough, considering I had lost 15 lbs since the last time I was in central rock, and I had thought all my strength would for sure be lost.
I started warming up with a VB and flashed my way to a V3. And I was able to do the V3 on my second try. I’m pretty happy with that considering my personal best was a V4 in that gym. I didn’t realize how fun auto belays are. Struggling with Helen through the last Grade 9 together on the auto belay reignited my drive to be better on the wall. It’s weird, how although the climb was excruciating and none of us topped the climb, it was oddly fulfilling to end the long weekend in a physical struggle. Judging by how quickly Helen rushed to register for a monthly pass, I’m guessing she feels the same as me. It’s almost as if the struggle itself is enough to fill a man’s (or woman’s) heart.** (Camus Was Right???).** Also I do have to improve my technique because for some reason my skin peels off every time I’m on the wall. All in all great way to end a break.
RIP skin
